SIDS Prevention: Understanding Risk Reduction Strategies
There is no cure for SIDS, as the exact cause of SIDS is not fully understood. However, there are a number of preventive measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of SIDS, such as:
- Placing infants on their backs to sleep
- Using a firm sleep surface
- Keeping soft objects, such as pillows and blankets, out of the crib
- Avoiding overheating the infant
- Not allowing smoking in the home or around the infant
- Encouraging breastfeeding
