Symptoms in males
- Painful burning sensations in your hands and feet (acroparesthesias).
- Dark red, raised skin lesions (angiokeratomas) that develop in clusters.
- Clouding of the cornea (corneal opacity) that usually affects both eyes.
- Kidney disease.
- Heart disease — including thickening of the heart muscle (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) and abnormal heart rhythms.
- Strokes.
- Gastrointestinal problems — such as diarrhea and abdominal pain.
- Hearing loss.
Symptoms in females
Women who have Fabry disease typically have milder signs and symptoms than do men — or they might not have symptoms until later in life. Signs and symptoms of Fabry disease in women can include:
- Tingling or burning pain in hands and feet
- Skin rashes
- Kidney disease
- Heart disease
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Hearing loss
