How to Drive a Power Chair
Power chairs have come a long way since the days of batteries slung onto a wheel chair with motors hanging out in full view, containing a separate switch to control each function. The advent of the computer chip has revolutionized the industry from ease of use, power consumption and even battery charging. Modern power chairs are manufactured to be self contained and extremely user friendly. Gone are the many switches, hand controllers and throttles, and in their place a very easy-to-use joystick control is mounted.Things You'll Need
- Power chair
Instructions
Just like cars, power chairs come with a keyed ignition. To get started, turn the key to "on."
The spring loaded joystick will always return to the center position when you release it. When in the center position, it is in brake mode, so just by releasing the joystick, the power chair will automatically come to a halt.
Pushing forward on the stick will make the chair move forward. The farther forward you push the stick, the faster the chair will go.
Pulling backward on the stick will make the chair move backwards. The farther back you pull the stick, the faster the chair will go.
When either moving forward or backward, pushing the stick right or left will make the chair turn in that direction.
