How to Get a Disabled Hang Tag in Maryland
A disability caused by an injury or illness makes walking long distances a challenging and sometimes painful task. Disabled individuals in the state of Maryland have the ability to acquire a "hang tag" for their vehicles. These hang tags prevent you from being fined and keep your vehicle from being towed if you park in a reserved disabled parking space. The Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration allows you to apply for such tags in person, or via fax or mail.
Instructions
Print out the hang tag application form or obtain one at a local Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration office.
Fill out Sections A and B on the form. Filling out Section D is only necessary if you're also acquiring a disability plate. Check the box for the desired "Parking Placard" option at the top of Section A.
Take the form to a licensed physician, such as your family doctor, and have the physician fill out Section C on the form. An examination is required if the doctor has no knowledge of your reason for needing the hang tag.
Fill out a check or money order for $20 -- the applicable fee as of the publication date -- made out to "MVA Disability Unit." The Maryland MVA does not accept cash.
Take your payment and application to a full service MVA office, have your doctor's office fax the application and payment to 410-787-7840 or mail the payment and application form to:
