Understanding Stomach & Digestive Issues: Causes, Symptoms & Solutions
Stomach and digestive problems can be caused by bad eating habits, unfriendly bacteria, stress or disease. The most common digestive problems include indigestion, or acid reflux, heartburn, irritable bowel syndrome and gastritis.-
Symptoms
-
Symptoms can range from excessive bloating to diarrhea, stomach cramps and unwanted gas. If you suffer from any of these symptoms regularly, it is important to see a doctor to rule out any more serious diseases, such as stomach cancer.
Indigestion and Heartburn
-
Indigestion, or acid reflux, and heartburn can be uncomfortable but are not life-threatening. Some foods, or even stress, may aggravate the symptoms. Eating too quickly should be avoided, along with spicy foods.
Irritable Bowel
-
Irritable bowel syndrome varies from person-to-person. Changes to diet almost always alleviate some of the symptoms. A high fiber diet, including whole grains and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, is important to relieve constipation. Avoiding gas-producing foods is also recommended.
