Acid Ingestion: Immediate First Aid & When to Seek Medical Help
If acid is ingested, the following steps should be taken immediately:
1. Do not induce vomiting. This can cause the acid to come back up and cause further damage to the esophagus.
2. Drink plenty of milk or water. This will help to dilute the acid and reduce its effects.
3. Do not take any medications that could irritate the esophagus, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
4. Seek medical attention immediately. Even if you feel fine, it is important to be seen by a doctor to rule out any serious injuries.
Here are some additional tips that may be helpful:
* If the acid is on the skin, flush the area with water for at least 15 minutes.
* If the acid is in the eyes, flush them with water for at least 20 minutes.
* Do not apply any ointments or creams to the affected area.
Acid ingestion can be a serious medical emergency. If you or someone you know has ingested acid, it is important to seek medical attention immediately.
