Diverticulums: Understanding Pouches in the Large Intestine
The saclike outpocketings of the large intestine wall are called diverticula. Diverticula are small, bulging pouches that form in the wall of the large intestine. They are usually asymptomatic, but can sometimes cause abdominal pain, bloating, and constipation.
