Amoebic Colitis: Symptoms, Causes & Treatment
Ameobic colitis, or amoebi dysentery, is bowel infection caused by harmful parasites called Entamoeba histolutica. These parasites sometimes do not cause any health problems, but other times they can irritate the colon wall, leading to severe and prolonged diarrhea. This condition is most common in areas of the world without proper sanitation. The bacteria are transmitted in bad drinking water and contaminated food items.-
Diarrhea

Diarrhea may occur up to 8 times per day in mild cases or as many 20 times per day in more severe cases. Diarrhea may contain blood and mucus.
Stomach Discomfort

Abdominal cramping and tenderness may occur as well.
Excess Gas

An individual afflicted with amoebic colitis may have more flatulence than normal.
Vomiting

In more severe cases, vomiting may accompany the diarrhea.
Fever

A person suffering from ameobic colitis may develop a fever.
Treatment

Anti-diarrheal medicine should be avoided as they may make the condition worse. A doctor may prescribe an antiparasitic drug if the condition is severe.
