Understanding IBS in Children: Symptoms, Causes & Management
Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as IBS, is a condition where the muscles in the digestive tract do not function properly. This can cause food to pass through too fast or too slow. When this happens in children, there are some symptoms that can be recognized.-
Discomfort
-
The stomach can experience pain and discomfort that can be mild to severe. Cramping can also occur.
Diarrhea
-
Diarrhea is also a symptom of IBS in children. This is the result of food not getting fully digested and pushed through the intestines too quickly.
Constipation
-
Constipation and really small stools can also occur. This is usually alternated with bouts of diarrhea.
Bloating
-
The stomach can also suffer from bloating and a felling of being really full. This can also lead to gas.
Bowel Movements
-
Sporadic bowel movements can also occur. After a bowel movement, there can still be a feeling like you have to go again.
