Imodium is a brand name for the drug loperamide, an over-the-counter medication used to treat diarrhea. Imodium also can reduce the amount of stool produced in people who have undergone an ileostomy. Some side effects are possible, but most are mild.-

The most common side effects associated with Imodium are mild dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, mild stomach pain and tiredness. In relieving diarrhea, the medication also can cause constipation.

People should not take Imodium if they are allergic to loperamide, are taking an antibiotic that may be causing diarrhea, or are experiencing bloody or tarry stools.
