Directions for a Medisense Lancet
Medisense lancets are a type of diabetic blood sampling lancet made by Abbott Pharmaceuticals. The lancets fit into a device that allows you to cleanly and quickly make a fingertip prick to draw a small blood sample for sugar testing. Proper preparation and usage is needed in order to safely get a blood sample.
Instructions
Unscrew the threaded tip portion off of the auto lancet device. Remove the old lancet.
Place a new lancet into the auto lancet device with the protective tip of the lancet facing outward.
Carefully grasp the lancet tip and twist the protective cover off to expose the needle point. Screw the threaded tip back onto the auto lancet device to secure the lancet.
Slowly turn the adjustment dial on the auto lancet device body to the comfort number you want to use. According to Abbott 1-2 is for soft or thin skin, for average skin use 3-4, and 4-5 for thick or calloused skin. Higher numbers offer deeper skin penetration.
Clean and dry the finger tip you want to take a blood sample from. Hold the auto lancet device with the tip in one hand and the other end (the barrel of the device) in the other hand.
Pull the barrel back away from the lancet tip. Pull until you feel a click. Release the barrel end and wait for the barrel to move back to the original position.
Firmly place the lancet tip of the device over the fingerprint section of your testing finger.
Press the trigger button on the lancet device with the other hand. Remove the tip from the test finger to allow blood to flow out for a sample.
