How to Defeat Diabetes
Diabetes is a life-long condition characterized by a high level of blood glucose or blood sugar. If properly managed, people with diabetes can live a normal life. Unfortunately, if left untreated, diabetic complications such as coma, stroke or blindness may occur. Although diabetes is a chronic condition, it doesn't have to control your life. There are ways to manage this condition and remain relatively healthy.Things You'll Need

Instructions
Adhere to your doctor's treatment plan. Commit to following your doctor's advice and taking medications as instructed to maintain control of your diabetes and prolong your life.
Control your alcohol intake. Excessive alcohol consumption raises blood glucose levels. Drink in moderation. Limit yourself to one or two drinks a day.
Lower stress. Chronic anxiety interferes with your body's ability to use insulin properly. Control and reduce stress with deep breathing exercises, proper time management, rest and other relaxation techniques.
Exercise more. A fitness routine helps your body maintain a normal blood sugar level. Engage in physical activity daily for at least 30 minutes. Ride your bike, go for a jog or take a brisk walk.
Eat a healthy diet. Improper eating habits can complicate diabetes, and diabetics need a certain amount of fat, protein and carbohydrates in their diets. Monitor your sugar and carb intake to control your blood sugar. Consult a registered dietitian to develop a healthy meal plan.
