Abilify (Aripiprazole) in Children: Side Effects & Information
Abilify is the brand name for the drug aripiprazole. It is indicated to treat Schizophrenia in patients 13 years of age and older, and bipolar I disorder in patients 10 years of age and older. It is also used as an add-on treatment for adults with major depressive disorder. Abilify has potential side effects.-
Common Side Effects

In children, the most common Abilify side effects are uncontrolled movements or muscle disorders, including restlessness, stiff muscles and tremors. Headaches, nausea and sleeplessness are also common side effects.
Serious Side Effects

Some serious side effects are neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which is rare but very serious; tardive dyskinesia, which can become permanent; and increased blood sugar that can be dangerous for diabetics.
Other Side Effects

Other side effects include orthostatic hypotension, blurred vision, lightheadedness, agitation, anxiety, fast heart rate, rhinitis, cough, rash, weight gain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, jaundice and cough.
Contraindications

Abilify is contraindicated in those who have a known hypersensitivity to Abilify, including those who have experienced itching or anaphylaxis.
Precautions

Abilify should be used cautiously for children with seizure conditions or renal, hepatic or cardiac disease.
