Wellbutrin is prescribed to treat major depression and seasonal affective disorder. A brand for the drug bupropion hydrochloride, Wellbutrin is available in a regular and a sustained-release form (SR). Many side effects are possible.-

Common Side Effects

Numerous side effects are common with Wellbutrin use. They include abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, agitation, dizziness, dry mouth, headaches, insomnia, shakiness and sweating.
Risks

Antidepressant medications such as Wellbutrin can lead to suicidal thoughts and behavior, particularly in people younger than 24 years of age. Although uncommon, Wellbutrin can cause seizures and hallucinations in some patients.
Risk Factors

Maximum dosage is 450 mg a day. Taking higher amounts is more likely to cause side effects, including seizures. Other risk factors for seizures when taking Wellbutrin include a history of seizures, liver disease, eating disorders and excessive alcohol use.
Drug Interactions

Wellbutrin interacts with many drugs. They include certain antidepressants, anti-psychotic drugs, anti-seizure medications, beta blockers, heart medications and smoking cessation aids.
