Flu Shot Volume: How Much Fluid is in a Dose?
The amount of fluid in a standard dose influenza vaccine is 0.5 milliliters (mL). This is about the size of a small raindrop, less than two drops of eye drops, or five drops of salad dressing.
The dose for children ages 6 months to 35 months old is 0.25 mL, about half the size of a standard dose flu shot. For children ages 3 to 8 years who are getting a flu shot for the first time, two doses given one month apart, each dose will be 0.5 mL.
