Tamiflu (Oseltamivir): Dosage, Usage & What to Know
Tamiflu is a prescription medicine that is available to both prevent and treat the onset of flu symptoms. It is not a substitute for the the seasonal flu shot, but studies have shown that it does decrease the length of flu symptoms. It is available in pill form and fruit-flavored liquid form for children older than one year old and adults who have a hard time taking pills. For flu treatment, children's doses are from 30 mg to 75 mg, whereas adult doses are 75 mg. Follow your doctor's prescription closely.Things You'll Need
- 10 doses of Tamiflu
- Light snack
Instructions
Take your first dose of Tamiflu after having a light snack to prevent any sort of upset stomach. For an adult one dose is a 75-mg pill or 75 mg of the liquid.
After about twelve hours, take another dose of Tamiflu.
For the next five days continue to take the Tamiflu every twelve hours to reduce the symptoms of the flu.
