How to Recover From an Angiogram
An angiogram is a fairly straightforward procedure, but it's important to follow your doctor's after-care instructions very carefully to avoid complications and to get back to normal as soon as possible.
Instructions
If Done Via the Wrist
Lie as still as possible for a few hours immediately following the procedure.
Leave the bandage on your wrist until the next morning.
Stay out of the tub or shower until the morning after the procedure.
Avoid bending the affected wrist for 8 hours following the angiogram. This includes typing or other light work with your hand ' don't do anything at all that involves bending the wrist.
If Done Via the Groin
Stay completely still after the procedure, until the nurses or doctors tell you it's OK to move. Pressure may be applied to the dressing for a couple of hours, and you will not be able to get out of bed for at least 4 hours.
Keep the dressing on the insertion area for 24 hours, and replace it if it gets wet.
Stay out of the tub or shower until the day after the procedure.
Avoid any heavy lifting, work or exercise for at least 48 hours ' this includes walking and climbing stairs.
Use acetaminophen as directed by your doctor if you experience any discomfort at the insertion site.
