Understanding Heart Failure: Symptoms and Early Warning Signs
Cardiovascular disease encompasses a number of common and dangerous conditions relating to the heart and cardiovascular system. Heart failure is a leading cause of death, especially in the United States. There are many signs and symptoms of heart failure that may allow you to address the condition before it's too late.-
Swelling
-
Swelling of both the abdomen and lower areas of the body is a possible sign of heart failure. Lower body areas that may be symptomatic include the feet, ankles and legs.
Excitability
-
This particular symptom is in relation to your heart rate. Those with heart failure often experience an increased or odd heartbeat.
Breathing Problems
-
A shortness of breath, also known as dyspnea, may be a sign of heart failure. It will be especially prevalent while lying down or during exercise.
Exercise Problems
-
You may have a problem performing exercise of all types. On this same note, fatigue and weakness, two other common symptoms of heart failure, may be responsible.
Considerations
-
These particular signs and symptoms are specific to chronic heart failure. Acute or sudden-onset heat failure has many of the same symptoms, in addition to a heavy buildup of fluid and chest pain. Acute heart failure symptoms are also likely to be much more severe and arise more quickly.
