Origin of the Term Myocardial Infarction: A Historical Perspective
Myocardial infarction is a term that was first coined in 1829 by the French physician Jean-Baptiste Bouillaud. Bouillaud used the term to describe the condition that occurs when the heart muscle is deprived of oxygen, leading to tissue death. The term is derived from the Greek words "myo" meaning muscle, "card" meaning heart, and "infarctus" meaning tissue death.Cardiovascular Disease - Related Articles
