What are all the symptoms of an iron-overload?
Iron overload, or hemochromatosis, is a condition in which the body absorbs too much iron from food. Most people with hemochromatosis don't have any symptoms in the early stages of the disease. As iron levels increase, symptoms may develop, including:
* Joint pain, especially in the hands, wrists, and knees
* Fatigue
* Weakness
* Abdominal pain
* Nausea and vomiting
* Darkened skin
* Weight loss
* Loss of libido
* Erectile dysfunction
* Heart problems, including heart failure and arrhythmias
* Liver problems, including cirrhosis and liver cancer
* Diabetes
* Thyroid problems
* Adrenal gland problems
* Pituitary gland problems
In severe cases, iron overload can lead to organ failure and death.
If you have any of the symptoms of iron overload, talk to your doctor. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent serious complications.
