ER Treatment for Bone Injuries: What to Expect
The ER may sometimes attempt a temporary or closed reduction in case of minor dislocations or fractures, particularly for the treatment of shoulder dislocations or finger deformities in order to make the patient more comfortable or enable easier transport to theatre if a surgical procedure under anaesthesia will eventually be required.
However, definitive treatment of most broken bones usually takes place elsewhere in the hospital following appropriate review, imaging, documentation and preparation.
