Understanding the Five Parts of the Nervous System: A Comprehensive Guide
Central Nervous System
1. Brain. The brain is the control center of the nervous system. It processes information from the sensory organs, sends out commands to the muscles, and controls all of the body's vital functions.
2. Spinal Cord. The spinal cord is a long, thin bundle of nerves that runs from the brain down the back. It carries messages between the brain and the rest of the body.
Peripheral Nervous System
1. Sensory Neurons. Sensory neurons carry messages from the sensory organs to the brain.
2. Motor Neurons. Motor neurons carry messages from the brain to the muscles.
3. Interneurons. Interneurons are neurons that connect sensory neurons to motor neurons. They are found in the brain and spinal cord.
