Understanding the Human Brain Structure: A Comprehensive Overview
1. Cerebrum:- The largest part of the brain, responsible for higher-level cognitive functions such as thinking, memory, and language.
- Divided into two hemispheres (right and left), each with four lobes: frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital.
2. Diencephalon:
- Located below the cerebrum and above the brainstem.
- Consists of the thalamus, hypothalamus, and epithalamus.
- Involved in relaying sensory information, regulating emotions, and producing hormones.
3. Brainstem:
- Connects the cerebrum to the spinal cord.
- Consists of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata.
- Controls basic life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and sleeping.
4. Cerebellum:
- Located at the back of the skull, below the cerebrum.
- Responsible for coordinating muscle movements, balance, and posture.
5. Limbic system:
- A set of brain structures involved in emotions, motivations, memory, and learning.
- Includes the amygdala, hippocampus, and cingulate gyrus.
