A nervous system is a complex network of specialized cells that coordinate and transmit signals to and from different parts of an organism. It allows organisms to respond to stimuli, process information, and control their behavior. Nervous systems can be simple, as in invertebrates, or highly complex, as in vertebrates.
By contrast, a neuromuscular junction is a specialized site of communication between a neuron and a muscle cell. Neuromuscular junctions allow the nervous system to control muscle contractions. The nervous system sends signals to the neuromuscular junction, which causes the release of neurotransmitters that bind to receptors on the muscle cell, triggering a contraction.
