Ankle Taping for Kickboxing: A Step-by-Step Guide
Kickboxing is great exercise and an exciting sport to participate in. However, the training can be grueling and hard on ankles since many moves require you to repeatedly kick either a weighted bag or your opponent. Ankle wrapping can help support ankles during training and protect you from excessive bruising.Things You'll Need
- Elastic athletic tape
- Metal fasteners
Instructions
Press one end of the athletic tape against your ankle just above your foot. This will be your starting point for the wrap. Do not start the wrap under your foot, since this can limit mobility and affect your kicks.
Wrap the tape around your ankle so that the loose end is held in place. Using a circular motion, create a tight loop of elastic wrap around your ankle. Do not wrap it so tightly that you cut off your circulation or you cannot rotate your foot.
Extend the wrap up your ankle and leg in overlapping circles. Some athletes wrap their legs to midshin for practice sessions, while others prefer to just wrap the ankle area. Do whatever is most comfortable for you.
Progress back down your leg to where you started, after you have wrapped as high on your leg as you find comfortable. Continue wrapping back downward until you reach your starting point.
Secure the wrapping with metal grips. Make sure that you can move your foot and leg without interference before beginning training.
