Safe Splint Removal: A Step-by-Step Guide
Splints aid in the healing and care of injured limbs or digits by supporting and protecting the injured area. Sometimes a temporary splint is applied to a broken bone to protect it until a cast is applied. Splints also help with jammed fingers, pulled muscles and other minor injuries. Remove the splint to wash underneath it or to check the injury.
Instructions
Place the affected limb or appendage on a flat, stable surface.
Remove the clasps, pins, tape or Velcro straps slowly.
Remove the splint. If an injured body part, such as a leg, needs to be moved, carefully lift it away from the splint.
