Flexors vs. Extensors: Understanding Muscle Actions
Flexors:
* Muscles that decrease the angle between two body parts.
* Located on the anterior (front) side of the body.
* Examples: Biceps brachii, rectus femoris
Extensors:
* Muscles that increase the angle between two body parts.
* Located on the posterior (back) side of the body.
*Examples: Triceps brachii, hamstrings
*Flexors and extensors work in pairs or antagonistic muscle pairs- they pull in opposite directions to control joint positions*.
