Understanding the Four Sections of the Spine: Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar & Sacral
The four sections of the spine are:
1. Cervical spine: This section of the spine is located in the neck and consists of seven vertebrae (C1-C7). It is responsible for supporting the head and allowing for movement in the neck.
2. Thoracic spine: This section of the spine is located in the upper back and consists of twelve vertebrae (T1-T12). It is responsible for supporting the rib cage and protecting the heart and lungs.
3. Lumbar spine: This section of the spine is located in the lower back and consists of five vertebrae (L1-L5). It is responsible for supporting the weight of the upper body and allowing for movement in the lower back.
4. Sacrum: This section of the spine is located at the base of the spine and consists of five fused vertebrae (S1-S5). It is responsible for supporting the pelvis and connecting the spine to the hip bones.
