Joint and Muscle Receptors: Types and Functions
The receptors that lie in the joint and muscles are:
1. Muscle spindles are sensory receptors located within skeletal muscles. They sense changes in muscle length and help maintain muscle tone and posture.
2. Joint receptors are sensory receptors located in the joint capsules and ligaments. They sense changes in joint position and help to coordinate joint movement and protect the joint from damage.
3. Golgi tendon organs are sensory receptors located at the junction between tendons and muscles. They sense changes in muscle tension and help to protect the muscle from damage.
