Personalize Your Cast: A Guide to Creative Casting
An orthopedic cast is a hard shell made of plaster or fiberglass that is used to immobilize a fractured bone during the healing process. Casts limit motion to ensure the bone remains in a set position. Although the actual cast is not painful, the restriction it causes can be unpleasant. Signing a cast can help to brighten the day of the person wearing the cast and give them something fun to look at.Things You'll Need
- Permanent markers
- Stickers
Instructions
Wipe the surface of the cast with a clean dry cloth to remove debris.
Write an inspirational message, joke, riddle or simply sign your name on the surface of the cast using a permanent marker. Washable markers should not be used because they will smear and can easily wear off. Pens and pencils should also not be used as they will likely not be dark enough to show up.
Draw a picture on the cast. Bright images will help uplift the spirit of the person wearing the cast. You can also draw a maze or tic-tac-toe board to help the person to remain entertained while they are healing.
Apply stickers to the outside of the cast. There are also companies that make specially created shrink wrap stickers called cast tattoos. These tattoos come in a variety of themes and safely adhere to the exterior of the cast.
