Head, Face & Neck Blood Supply: Carotid & Vertebral Arteries Explained
Common carotid artery
- Ascends along the anterolateral aspect of the neck and bifurcates approximately near the level of the angle of the mandible
- Its two branches are- the external and internal carotid arteries which serve almost all of the structures in the head, face and neck.
- The vertebral arteries, which arise from the subclavian arteries, also contribute blood supply to the head and neck.
