Chickenpox Treatment & Prevention: Antivirals & Vaccine
TreatmentThere is no cure for chickenpox itself. However, antiviral medications can be helpful in reducing the severity and duration of the symptoms. These medications are most effective when started within the first 24 to 48 hours of the rash appearing.
Vaccine
The varicella vaccine is a safe and effective way to prevent chickenpox. It is recommended for all children and adults who are not immune to chickenpox. The vaccine is typically given in two doses, four to eight weeks apart.
