Optimal Surgical Position for Lower Back Surgery: Prone vs. Jackknife
Prone position or Jackknife position
The prone position (also called the jackknife position) is the most appropriate surgical position for lower back surgery. In this position, the patient lies on their stomach with their head turned to one side. The surgeon has full access to the back and can easily manipulate the spine. This position also helps to reduce the risk of blood clots forming during surgery.
