Infantile Autism: Understanding the Historical Term & Its Origins

The first name given to autism is infantile autism. It was first used by Leo Kanner in his 1943 paper "Autistic Disturbances of Affective Contact." Kanner used the term to describe a group of children who displayed a triad of symptoms: impaired social interaction, impaired communication, and restricted and repetitive behaviors.
