Dyslexia: Exploring the Origins and Meaning of the Word

Dyslexia comes from the Greek words dys, meaning "difficulty," and lexis, meaning "word." The term was first used in the 1880s by German ophthalmologist Rudolf Berlin. Berlin used dyslexia to describe a condition in which people had difficulty reading, despite having normal intelligence.
