Understanding Sinus Infection Symptoms: Causes & Relief
Sinusitis, commonly known as a sinus infection, occurs when your sinuses become irritated and inflamed. It can feel like a cold, but it is not quite the same thing. While a sinus infection can occur after a cold, it can also occur on its own, typically from allergies. Here are some common symptoms that can occur from a sinus infection.-
Pain
-
Pain or pressure is a common sign of a sinus infection. The pain will occur behind your eyes or in the center of your forehead and will become stronger when you bend over.
Illness
-
You will probably feel as if you have a cold. Fever and extreme fatigue even after resting are common. Sore throat, chills and pain in your ears may also occur.
Congestion
-
Congestion in your nose is a sign of a sinus infection. Especially during the night when you are lying down, you may notice you're breathing through your mouth and not your nose.
Drainage
-
Your sinuses will begin to drain. Your nose will constantly be running, and you may have a sore throat or nausea from your sinuses draining down your throat. When you blow your nose, it may have blood mixed in.
Taste
-
Your sense of taste and smell will be less intense because of the sinus blockage. Foods and drinks will taste bland, and you won't be able to smell most odors. You may also notice that you have a constant bad taste in your mouth.
