Pharynx: Understanding the Anatomical Throat Structure
The anatomic name for the throat is the pharynx. The pharynx is a muscular tube that connects the nasal cavity and mouth to the larynx and esophagus. It is divided into three sections: the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. The nasopharynx is the uppermost section and is located behind the nasal cavity.
