Skin Cancer Causes: Beyond Sun Exposure - Risk Factors & Prevention
While sunbathing is a significant risk factor for skin cancer, it is not the only cause. Some other factors can contribute to the development of skin cancer:- Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sources other than the sun, such as tanning beds and sunlamps
- A family history of skin cancer
- Fair skin that burns easily and does not tan
- A large number of moles
- A personal history of sunburn, especially blistering sunburns
- A weakened immune system
- Certain genetic disorders
- Exposure to certain chemicals, such as arsenic
- Exposure to ionizing radiation, such as X-rays and gamma rays
