What Types of termination exposure to X-ray?
Types of Radiation- Photons (x-rays & gamma rays)
- Electrons (beta particles)
- Ions (Alpha particles & protons)
When a body is irradiated, the intensity and type of radiation determine the type of
radiation exposure.
1. Acute radiation exposure:
- Occurs when a person or animal is exposed to a large amount of radiation over a short period of time.
- This can cause radiation poisoning or acute radiation syndrome (ARS).
- ARS can be life-threatening and symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin burns, hair loss, and fatigue.
- In severe cases, ARS can lead to death within days or weeks.
2.Chronic Radiation exposure:
- Occurs when a person or animal is exposed to a small amount of radiation over a long period of time.
- This can lead to long-term health effects such as cancer and heart disease.
- The risk of these effects depends on the amount of radiation exposure and the person's age and health status.
3.Prenatal radiation exposure:
- Occurs when a pregnant woman is exposed to radiation.
- This can lead to fetal malformations, mental retardation, and other developmental problems in the child.
- The risk of these effects depends on the amount of radiation exposure and the stage of pregnancy.
