Ovarian Cysts & Pregnancy Tests: Understanding False Negatives
An ovarian cyst typically does not cause a negative blood pregnancy test. A negative blood pregnancy test usually means that the person is not pregnant. However, in rare cases, a large ovarian cyst can interfere with the accuracy of a pregnancy test, leading to a false negative result. This can happen if the cyst produces hormones that are similar to those produced during pregnancy, which can confuse the test. Additionally, a cyst can also physically block the fallopian tubes, preventing the sperm from reaching the egg and resulting in a negative pregnancy test. If you have a negative pregnancy test but suspect that you may be pregnant, it is advisable to consult a doctor for further evaluation, including additional pregnancy tests or an ultrasound, to confirm or rule out pregnancy.Ovarian Cancer - Related Articles
