Understanding Lymph: Its Origin and Role in the Body

Lymph is derived from blood plasma. As blood plasma passes through the capillaries into the interstitial spaces of tissues, it is known as interstitial fluid. A portion of this interstitial fluid is collected by the lymphatic capillaries at the tissue level thus becoming lymph.
