How many people are diagnosed with lung cancer due to smoking?
Smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer, and it is estimated that approximately 80-90% of lung cancer cases are attributable to smoking. This means that out of every 10 people diagnosed with lung cancer, 8-9 of them have a history of smoking. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), tobacco use is responsible for around 2.4 million deaths from lung cancer each year worldwide. Smoking damages the cells in the lungs, making them more susceptible to mutations that can lead to cancer. Additionally, exposure to secondhand smoke also increases the risk of developing lung cancer.Lung Cancer - Related Articles
