The Liver: A Key Component of the Digestive System

The liver is part of the digestive system and the largest internal organ of the human body. Located on the right side of the abdomen just below the rib cage, it performs many functions, including the production of bile, metabolism of nutrients, filtering of toxins from the blood, storage of glycogen for energy, and synthesis of clotting factors and plasma proteins necessary for digestion and other vital body processes.
