What structure do red blood cells lack that limits their life span?
Red Blood Cells lack a nucleus, which limits their life span. The nucleus is responsible for many important cellular functions such as DNA replication, transcription, and translation. Without a nucleus, red blood cells cannot divide or repair damaged DNA. As a result, red blood cells have a limited life span of about 120 days after which they are destroyed by macrophages in the spleen and liver.Leukemia - Related Articles
