Diet After Colorectal Cancer: A Guide to Nutrition & Recovery
Colorectal cancer has life altering changes that come with it. Chances are you had to have a portion of your bowel removed which will change the way you will eat from now on. Changes vary from person to person but finding the proper diet can be attained with the help from a doctor or dietitian.
Instructions
Speak with your doctor to discuss what he feels you should be eating. Depending on how much of your bowel was removed, you may need to completely change your eating habits.
Eat different foods to see what sits well with you system and what doesn't. Some with colorectal cancer have problems with high fiber fruits and vegetables, rich or fatty food, onions and cabbage and fizzy drinks. Focus on food low in fat and use whole grains in your diet.
Keep a log of what you eat, when you eat and any digestive problems you have to help determine which foods work for you and which don't. You can look through the log and see if it is a certain food that triggers the problems, or you can bring the log and seek advice from a dietitian.
Eat smaller portions more throughout the day to help with digestion issues that may arise with your diet after colorectal cancer.
