Vermiform Appendix: Anatomy, Function & Significance
The blind sac hanging from initial part of colon is Vermiform appendix.
Vermiform appendix arises from the caecum about 2.5 cm below the ileocecal junction and is a narrow blind-ended tube ,10 cm long and 8mm or less in diameter .It has no obvious function and is considered a rudimentary organ . It contains abundant aggregation of lymphoid nodules known as mucosa associated lymphatic tissues(MALT).
