Pus-Filled Cyst: Causes, Risks & When to See a Doctor
If you have a cyst with pus coming out, it is important to see a doctor as soon as possible. This could be a sign of a serious infection that may require treatment with antibiotics or even surgery. Do not try to treat the cyst on your own; doing so could make the infection worse.
In the meantime, there are a few things you can do to help relieve the pain and discomfort:
* Apply a warm compress to the area. This can help to reduce swelling and pain.
* Take over-the-counter pain medication, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. This can help to relieve pain and fever.
* Wash the area with soap and water. This can help to prevent the infection from spreading.
* Keep the area dry.
Be sure to see a doctor as soon as possible if the cyst does not improve with home treatment, or if you develop any of the following symptoms:
* Increased pain
* Fever
* Chills
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Difficulty breathing
