St. Peregrine Laziosi: Patron Saint for Cancer Patients - History & Significance
St. Peregrine Laziosi is considered the patron saint of cancer patients. He was an Italian Catholic friar who lived in the 13th century. According to tradition, St. Peregrine was diagnosed with cancer of the leg and was miraculously cured after praying to the Virgin Mary. He is often depicted in art with a crutch or a cancerous leg. St. Peregrine's feast day is May 1st.
St. Bernadette Soubirous, St. Gianna Beretta Molla, and St. John Paul II are also venerated as patron saints for cancer patients.
