Cancer Risk Reduction: 3 Evidence-Based Lifestyle Strategies
1. Maintain a healthy weight: Obesity increases the risk of developing certain types of cancer, such as breast, colon, and endometrial cancer. Aim for a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9.
2. Be physically active: Regular physical activity can reduce your risk of developing cancer, including colon, breast, and endometrial cancer. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity each week.
3. Eat a healthy diet: A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can lower your risk of developing cancer, especially cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, and lung. Limit your intake of red and processed meats, sugary drinks, and unhealthy fats.
