The red bone marrow gradually disappears and is replaced with yellow marrow as a person ages. By the age of 70, most bone marrow has become yellow. Yellow bone marrow is found at the ends (epiphyses) of long bones and in the flat bones of the skull, vertebrae, ribs, and pelvis.
